Abstract

Discourse is the most complete and complex linguistic unit compared to other linguistic units. Complex here means that discourse has many supporting elements, other supporting linguistic units include phonemes, morphemes, phrases, clauses, and sentences. A piece of writing can be considered a discourse if it meets the requirements for forming a discourse, including cohesion and coherence. Cohesion is the structural cohesion of a form, for example, the presence of references, substitutions, ellipsis, conjunctions, and so on, while coherence is related to meaning. Based on the medium of delivery, discourse can be divided into two: oral discourse and written discourse. Oral discourse is a type of discourse delivered orally or directly, while written discourse is discourse delivered through writing. Basically, discourse is oral because humans first communicated orally, but as time goes by, there is more written discourse than oral discourse. Critical discourse analysis (AWK) is an effort or process to provide an explanation (of social reality) that is being studied or is being studied by an individual or group with a specific goal of achieving what is desired (Yoce Aliah Darma, 2009: 49). The analysis in question is an effort to reveal the hidden intentions of the author who makes a statement. The problems in this study are: 1) How is the characterization of the characters in the novel "Women at Point Zero" by Nawal el Saadawi? 2) How is the conflict in the novel "Women at Point Zero" by Nawal el Saadawi? 3) How is the message in the novel "Women at Point Zero" by Nawal el Saadawi? 4) How is the critical discourse analysis of the characterization in the novel "Women at Point Zero" by Nawal el Saadawi? 5) How is the critical discourse analysis of the conflict in the novel "Women at Point Zero" by Nawal el Saadawi? 6) How is the critical discourse analysis of the message in the novel "Women at Point Zero" by Nawal el Saadawi? The method used is descriptive analytical. The object of this research is a novel entitled "Women at Point Zero by Nawal el-Saadawi" After conducting research on the novel by analyzing it, the conclusions are: 1) The male characters in this novel have a character that tends to be powerful in all aspects of life, especially controlling women. There are many injustices experienced by women. The female characters tend to be weak so they are easily controlled and oppressed by men and finally they no longer trust men and want to live freely, they feel that household ties are slavery for women. The conflict in this novel occurs between men and women because of men's power over women and in the end women lose trust in men. The message of this novel is about the power/hegemony of men over women and finally women choose to be feminists.
