PRIDE IN INDONESIAN LANGUAGE IN PURWAKARTA

Abstract

The Indonesian language as a national identity is always maintained, one of which is by making Indonesian a compulsory field of study for Indonesian citizens from elementary school to university. The purpose of fostering Indonesian language through formal education is not only to ensure that citizens, especially those pursuing formal education, have oral and written language skills, but also to develop a stable identity and a good attitude towards Indonesian as a form of language pride. This research is based on a study of language attitudes, especially students' pride in Indonesian. Using direct observation and initial interviews, the author obtained preliminary data in the form of student responses regarding language pride (language pride) towards Indonesian. This needs to be studied more deeply. This is due to various reasons revealed from the temporary answers of Purwakarta Polybusiness students. This study also aims to determine the language attitudes, especially the pride of Purwakarta Polybusiness students towards Indonesian. To collect data on the attitude of language pride towards Indonesian, the author implemented criteria for assessing the attitude of pride towards Indonesian by using several unstructured questions to be answered by Purwakarta Polybusiness students. These statements are expected to reveal the tendency of students to show their language attitudes, especially their pride in Indonesian. It is hoped that the attitude towards language, especially pride in using good Indonesian, will be present in students consciously and with love so that cases of language loss like in Ireland do not occur in Indonesia.
