ANALYSIS OF COORDINATIVE AND SUBORDINATIVE CONJUNCTIONS IN THE NOVEL "OCTOPUS DAVID" BY WILLY W

Abstract

The formulation of the problem in this study is: 1) How many and how are the use of coordinating conjunctions in the novel "Gurita David" by Willy W? 2) How many and how are the use of subordinating conjunctions in the novel "Gurita David" by Willy W? The method used in this study is the Descriptive Analytical method. The data acquisition techniques used in this study are library study, observation, and documentation techniques. The data source for this study is the novel "Gurita David" by Willy W, so based on the analysis conducted by the author, it can be concluded that 1) it turns out that there are 1194 coordinating conjunctions used and of the 1194 coordinating conjunctions used in the sentences in the novel "Gurita David" by Willy W, there are 253 uses of coordinating conjunctions that are not appropriate with the following details. The use of coordinating conjunctions and (containing a meaning relationship of addition) 160 uses and the use of conjunctions but (containing a meaning relationship of opposition) 93 uses. So the frequency of inappropriate use of coordinating conjunctions reached 21.2%, 2) it turns out that there are 2838 subordinating conjunctions used and of the 2838 subordinating conjunctions used in the sentences in the novel "Gurita David" by Willy W, there is one inappropriate use of subordinating conjunction, namely the subordinating conjunction which (contains an explanatory meaning relationship). So, the frequency of inappropriate use of coordinating conjunctions reached 0.04%.
