A COMPARISON OF CULTURAL VALUES IN THE NOVEL "RONGGENG DUKUH PARUK" BY AHMAD TOHARI WITH THE NOVEL "JANGIR BALI" BY NUR ST. ISKANDAR

Abstract

This research is motivated by the researcher's curiosity about two novels that both tell about the life of a dancer, namely "Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk" by Ahmad Tohari and the novel "Jangir Bali" by Nur St. Iskandar. Tells about Javanese society, from its social life to its education. This is the background to writing the novel. The novel "Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk" by Ahmad Tohari tells about the life of a dancer in Java. While the novel "Jangir Bali" by Nur St. Iskandar Bali tells about the life of a dancer in Bali. To understand the two novels, the researcher is interested in studying the cultural values ​​contained in the two novels. Based on this background, the problems of this research are 1) What are the cultural values ​​in the novel "Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk" by Ahmad Tohari? 2) What are the cultural values ​​in the novel "Jangir Bali" by Nur St. Iskandar? 3) How is the comparison of cultural values ​​in the novel "Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk" by Ahmad Tohari with the novel "Jangir Bali" by Nur St. Iskandar? The method used in this study is a descriptive analysis method. The technique used in this study is a data acquisition technique using documentation techniques. The population in this study is the novel "Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk" by Ahmad Tohari with the novel "Jangir Bali" by Nur St. Iskandar. The sample is something that is used as a direct object that is used as the target of the study. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there are similarities and differences between the novel "Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk" by Ahmad Tohari and the novel "Jangir Bali" by Nur St. Iskandar, especially in cultural values.
