A STUDY OF LANGUAGE VARIATION IN STATUS POSTS MADE BY TWITTER USERS JOINING SAQINAA MELISA'S TWITTER ACCOUNT JANUARY 2014

Abstract

The national language in Indonesia is Indonesian, the emergence of language variations used in the status of Twitter users is clearly damaging the national language. For this reason, researchers feel compelled to conduct research on "A Study of Language Variations in Statuses Created by Twitter Users Who Joined the Saqinaa Melisa Twitter Account in the January 2014 Period". Based on this background, the problems of this research are 1) What language variations are used in the statuses created by Twitter users who joined the Saqina Melisa Twitter account in the January 2014 period? 2) What language variations are most often used in the statuses created by Twitter users who joined the Saqinaa Melisa Twitter account in the January 2014 period? The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. The techniques used in this research are data acquisition techniques using literature studies, and documentation techniques. The population in this research is the statuses created by Twitter users who joined the Saqinaa Melisa Twitter account in the January 2014 period, totaling 477 pieces. The sample taken in this study was only 114 statuses, the researcher used a sampling technique based on the purpose, namely a purposive sample. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that 1) The language variations used in the statuses made by Twitter users who joined the Saqinaa Melisa Twitter account in the January 2014 period are variations of Slang / Prokem and Acrolect. 2) The most widely used language variations in the statuses made by Twitter users who joined the Saqinaa Melisa Twitter account in the January 2014 period are variations of Slang / Prokem. Of the 114 statuses used as research samples, 74 statuses are included in the Slang / Prokem language variations, and 40 other statuses are included in the acrolect language variations.
