MEANING, TYPES, AND FORMS OF DISCOURSE ON PLASTIC PACKAGING BISCUITS

Abstract

This research is motivated by the author's curiosity about the various texts used by manufacturers on biscuit plastic packaging circulating in the market. The research problem is formulated as follows. 1) What is the meaning of the discourse contained in biscuit plastic packaging? 2) What types of discourse are contained in biscuit plastic packaging? 3) What forms of discourse are contained in biscuit plastic packaging? The method used in this research is descriptive analysis. Data acquisition techniques used in this research are literature studies and observations. The instruments in this research are in the form of source books and questionnaires. The object of this research is focused on the discourse contained in biscuit plastic packaging. The conclusions are as follows. 1) There is a diversity of meanings in the discourse contained in biscuit plastic packaging, including descriptive meaning, extension meaning, grammatical meaning, denotative meaning, and broad meaning. The most widely used discourse meanings in biscuit plastic packaging are descriptive meaning and denotative meaning. 2) There is a diversity of types of discourse contained in biscuit plastic packaging, including narrative discourse, argumentative discourse, descriptive discourse, expository discourse, and persuasive discourse. However, the most commonly used types of discourse on biscuit plastic packaging are descriptive discourse and persuasive discourse. 3) There are various forms of discourse found on biscuit plastic packaging, including monologue, procedural, and harantorical forms.
