A STYLE ANALYSIS OF GOENAWAN MOHAMAD'S COLLECTION OF ESSAYS BY THE PERIOD 1960-2001 AS AN ALTERNATIVE INDONESIAN LANGUAGE TEACHING MATERIAL IN HIGH SCHOOL

Abstract

Language style is a rhetorical form, with the aim of presenting an imaginative impression for the listener or reader. The formulation of the problem in this study is 1) what language style appears in the collection of essays by Gunawan Muhamad from 1960-2001?, 2) what type of language style often appears in the collection of essays by Gunawan Muhamad from 1960-2001?, 3) can the language style contained in the collection of essays by Gunawan Muhamad be used as an alternative Indonesian language teaching material in high school? The research objectives that the author wants to achieve are To find out the language style contained in the essays by Gunawan Muhamad from 1960-2001. To find out the language style that often appears in the essays by Gunawan Muhamad from 1960-2001. To find out whether or not Gunawan Muhamad's essays can be used as an alternative Indonesian language teaching material in high school. In this study the author uses a qualitative descriptive method. The techniques used were documentation, literature study, and analysis. The population and sample in this study were all 87 essays by Goenawan Mohamad from 1960 to 2001. Based on the results of data analysis on the language styles contained in Goenawan Muhamad's essays from 1961 to 2001, overall the language styles in the most common order are antonomasia, hyperbole, simile, synecdoche totem properte, asyndeton, anaphora, satire, cynicism, hypalase, synecdoche pras prototo, sarcasm, tautology, litotes, correccio epanortosis, periphrasis, metaphor, inuendo, anticipation prolepsis, ellipsis, aptronym, occupation, eroteris, paradox, polysyndeton, apostrophe, metonymy, zeugma, personification, slepsis, climax, apophasis, synesthesia, anadiplosis, depersonification, parallelism, trope, assonance, paranomasia, irony, eponym, oxymoron, gradation, allusion, antithesis, anticlimax, epithet, euphemism, epanalepsis, pleonasm, mesodiplosis, association, fable allegory, epizeukis. Suggestions for Indonesian language teachers in high school are that hopefully the results of this study can be used as learning materials, for the author, hopefully they can continue their writing habits so that they can be used as scientific references. The researcher himself realizes that there are still many shortcomings in this study, hopefully the results of this study can be used as an initial step in the development of science, especially Indonesian language style.
