Abstract

The title of this research is a study of the function and variation of language in the Facebook status of elementary, junior high, senior high, and college education levels who joined the Kusmanto Facebook account in the period of February 2015. Problem formulation: 1) How is the function of language in the status made by Facebook users of elementary, junior high, senior high, and college education levels who joined the Kusmanto Facebook account in the period of February 2015? 2) How is the variation of language in the status made by Facebook users of elementary, junior high, senior high, and college education levels who joined the Kusmanto Facebook account in the period of February 2015? 3) How is the comparison of the function of language in the status made by Facebook users of elementary, junior high, senior high, and college education levels who joined the Kusmanto Facebook account in the period of February 2015? 4) How is the comparison of the variation of language in the status made by Facebook users of elementary, junior high, senior high, and college education levels who joined the Kusmanto Facebook account in the period of February 2015? Method: Descriptive analytical. Conclusion: 1) the language function in Facebook status made by elementary, junior high, senior high and college education levels is the most dominant referential language function; 2) comparison of language function in Facebook status of elementary, junior high, senior high and college education levels is the most dominant referential language function; 3) language variation in Facebook status made by elementary education levels is acrolect language variation, junior high is slang language variation, senior high is acrolect language variation and college is familiar language variation; 4) comparison of language variation in Facebook status of elementary and senior high education levels is the most dominant use of acrolect language variation, senior high education level is more dominant use of slang language variation and college is the most dominant use of familiar language variation.
