EFFORTS TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' UNDERSTANDING OF CHILDREN'S STORY TEXTS BY USING THE SURVEY, QUESTION, READ, RECITE, AND REVIEW (SQ3R) LEARNING METHOD

Abstract

Efforts to improve students' understanding of children's story texts in class VII A SMPN 2 Garawangi are one of the actions that the author has carried out. This is based on the problem of low activity and student learning outcomes in reading comprehension of children's story texts, therefore the purpose of this study is to find out whether the SQ3R learning method can improve students' activity and learning outcomes in understanding children's story texts in class VII A SMPN 2 Garawangi. The method used by the author in this study is SQ3R, where the student's learning outcomes are averaged, and a percentage of completion is made based on the established KKM. Furthermore, the results are compared with success indicators. The results of the data discussion show an increase in the ability to understand children's story texts. This can be seen in the learning outcomes from the pre-cycle, namely the level of student learning completeness is only 26% with an average value of 58. In the first cycle there was a significant increase where the level of completeness was 64% with an average value of 72. In the third cycle there was a further increase with a level of completeness of 85% with an average value of 79. This can be categorized as successful because it exceeds the completeness criteria, namely 75% of the number of students. The conclusion of this study is that the SQ3R learning method can improve student learning outcomes in improving understanding of children's story texts in class VII A SMPN 2 Garawangi.
