Abstract

This research focuses on code switching and code mixing in the Sindangjawa Village community, Dukuh Puntang District, Cirebon Regency. The purpose of this research is to determine the form of code switching and code mixing in the Sindangjawa Village community and the factors that cause code mixing and code switching in the village. Several stages in this research are as follows (1) theoretical analysis (2) data collection through observation and interviews (3) analysis of data from observations and interviews. The methodology used in this research is the analytical descriptive method, namely research that intends to describe the situation or events of a subject that contains a phenomenon. The results of this research are (1) The results of observations and interviews, the researcher successfully observed and interviewed ten residents, three men and seven women (2) the results of data analysis showed symptoms of code switching and code mixing. Symptoms of code switching are from Sundanese switching to Indonesian and vice versa from Indonesian switching to Sundanese. Symptoms of code mixing are the presence of a language that is mixed between Javanese and Sundanese, Indonesian with Sundanese, and Javanese with Indonesian. The symptoms of code switching and code mixing occur in casual conversations while at official events Indonesian is used although sometimes there is a little Javanese or Sundanese that enters the Indonesian language, but in general at official times all residents use Indonesian. There are two factors that influence the occurrence of code switching and code mixing, namely social factors and situational factors. Social factors are related to the community itself as language users, that in the Sindangjawa village community there are two tribes namely Sundanese and Javanese, they understand each other's language they use, Javanese people understand Sundanese and Sundanese people vice versa understand Javanese so that code switching and code mixing occur. Situational factors are factors that influence language use, who speaks, with what language, to whom, in what situation, what topic of conversation, where to speak.
