Writing is one of the language skills that must be mastered by students, of the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), writing is considered the most difficult language skill. According to Tarigan (2008: 22) writing is the process of producing or depicting graphic symbols that describe a language understood by someone so that others can read the symbols and graphics. If we read about theories on how to write, it seems easy, but when we start writing, various difficulties arise, including difficulty developing ideas, concepts, or how to convey messages. This is felt by everyone, including students who are learning to write. One way to improve writing skills is by using the synectic learning model. The problems in this study are: 1). How is the learning implementation plan using the synectic model to improve writing skills in narrative discourse learning for class XI students of SMK Muhammadiyah Jalaksana in the 2014/2015 academic year? 2). How is the learning process using the synectic model to improve writing skills in narrative discourse learning for class XI students of SMK Muhammadiyah Jalaksana in the 2014/2015 academic year? 3). How are the learning outcomes using the synectic model to improve writing skills in narrative discourse learning for class XI students of SMK Muhammadiyah Jalaksana in the 2014/2015 academic year? The method used by the researcher is the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method. The instruments used are observation and tests. The research objects are 29 students of SMK Muhammadiyah Jalaksana in the 2014-2015 academic year. After three cycles of learning, it can be concluded that the learning outcomes in cycle I, five students got scores above 70 and 24 students were still below 70, meaning that only 17.24% of students had the ability to write narrative discourse. The results of cycle II, experienced an increase of nine students getting scores above 70, and 20 students were still below 70, meaning that 31.03% of students had the ability to write narrative discourse. The results of cycle III, experienced another increase as many as 14 students got scores above 70 and 15 students were still below 70, the average overall score of students was 70, 79, so the learning in cycle III was considered successful. Based on the results achieved by students, it can be concluded that the implementation of learning with the synectic model can improve the ability to write narrative discourse of class XI students of SMK Muhammadiyah Jalaksana in the 2014-2015 Academic Year.
