SYSTEM OF GREETINGS FOR RELATIVES OF THE SURAKARTA HADININGRAT PALACE

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the greeting system frequently used by the people of the Surakarta Hadiningrat Palace. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative method with content analysis techniques. Data collection was carried out using the methods of listening, engaging, speaking, recording, and taking notes. Data analysis in this study was descriptive using content analysis. The results of the interviews were codified then entered into the research instrument and analyzed. The results of the study show that in the greeting system of the Surakarta Hadiningrat Palace there are ten criteria that can be used to greet, namely based on kinship, based on descent, based on situation, based on social status, based on origin, based on intimacy, based on gender, based on marital status, based on age, and based on title. The greeting system used by relatives of the Surakarta Hadiningrat Palace is known that the most frequently appearing is the greeting based on city of origin totaling 52 words or 7.8% and the least frequently appearing is the greeting based on religious title totaling 1 word or 0.1%.
