VIEWS ON GOVERNMENT IN LITERARY WORKS

Abstract

Media polarization leads to actions that lead to national disintegration. The nation's mindset distinguishes written products from opposition. In hard news, it is easier to identify the opposition. However, it is not as easy to distinguish it in literary works. This study uses literary works (short stories) published by newspapers in 2016 and 2017. In processing, this researcher used AntConc 4.3.3w software to reveal the authors' views on the government and the people. The results show that the government is viewed negatively because its actions are contrary to the people and the lack of coordination between the central and regional governments, resulting in opposition. However, the government, represented by the words president, governor, mayor, and regent, is viewed from a personal perspective, not as a government institution, so interpersonal communication is emphasized. Meanwhile, society is viewed as an object with a collective mindset and values, and a strong sense of togetherness, while the people are viewed as opposition to the government, social classification, and a symbol of struggle and resistance.
