APPRECIATION OF POETRY IN THE LITERACY MOVEMENT

Abstract

Understanding poetry and understanding prose is different. This is because the language used in poetry is different from that used in prose. Understanding poetry may be slightly more complicated than understanding prose. This complexity arises because the way experiences are described in poetry is usually multi-layered, not direct or coherent as in most prose. Poets don't simply provide information and explanations to their readers about what they want to convey, but also consider the beauty of sound, harmony of rhythm, richness of imagery, precision of symbols, word design, and so on. Language in poetry is not just a tool for conveying information, but language that must possess poetic power. Poetry is a type of literary work that uses distinctive language, not common or ordinary language. Poetry usually uses effective language, with words that are economical but have rich meaning and effect. Poetry also sometimes uses suggestive language. Even if common and ordinary language is used, it is certainly expressed in an unusual and unusual way. In other words, poetry is the art of stringing words together, the art of creating magic in language. Because of its distinctive language, poetry can sometimes be somewhat difficult to understand. Poetry cannot be read casually like reading prose or news. Reading poetry requires seriousness, devotion, and sacrifice, with a continuous process of practice. Poetry will feel dark if we are not yet familiar with it. Poetry will become bright if we can unravel its mystery. Indeed, not all poetry is difficult to understand. There are many types of poetry, and each must be approached in different ways. Some poems contain stories about something, some poems that simply contain an outpouring of feelings, some poems that describe a mood, some poems contain ideas or teachings, some poems are full of abstract ideas, some poems are full of rhythmic play like mantras and so on. And each type must be read or understood with a different approach. The value of poetry does not lie solely in what is expressed, but more in how it is expressed. Thus, in poetry, form is usually more prominent than content, or at least there is a balance between the two. Because it is through form that the reader will find something unique, which is the creativity of a poet. This is where perspective, insight, sensitivity, and reaction to a particular theme or idea (whether major or trivial) become crucial. It's no wonder that many poems, with very ordinary or simple themes, possess extraordinary poetic power. Why? Because the poet manages to give that simple theme a precise, beautiful, and fresh form, thus leaving a profound impression on anyone who reads it.
