GRAMMATICAL AND LEXICAL COHESION OF FACE-TO-FACE LEARNING NEWS TEXTS ON KOMPAS.COM SOCIAL MEDIA

News texts contain information about an ongoing event, so the language used must be informative to be understood by readers. Meanwhile, this study aims to analyze the application of grammatical and lexical cohesion in face-to-face learning news texts on Kompas.com social media during the period of August and October 2021. This study used a qualitative descriptive method. Furthermore, the object of this study was Kompas.com social media, and the subjects were face-to-face learning news texts containing grammatical and lexical cohesion. The data collection technique used was the free listening, speaking, and note-taking technique. Meanwhile, the data analysis used the distribution method with basic techniques for direct elements and advanced techniques in the form of omission and replacement techniques. The results of the study found 100 data on grammatical and lexical cohesion. The data consisted of 39 grammatical cohesions with descriptions of 10 references, 9 substitutions, 7 ellipsis, and 13 conjunctions. Meanwhile, lexical cohesion amounted to 61 data with a description of 10 repetitions, 10 synonyms, 10 antonyms, 10 hyponyms, 12 collocations, and 9 equivalences. Based on the data found, it can be concluded that the grammatical cohesion marker with the largest number is conjunction. Meanwhile, in lexical cohesion, the most data is found in collocation. Every grammatical and lexical cohesion in the news text related to face-to-face learning on Kompas.com is able to make the discourse cohesive and the meaning or content of the news can be understood and conveyed to the news reader.
