SPEAKING PRODUCTS FOR ADOLESCENTS WITH CONDUCTIVE HEARING DISORDERS

Abstract

ABSTRACT: A person's speech process will run well and smoothly if the various organs in his body are in normal condition. Hearing loss is one of the factors that can cause delays in a person's communication process. This study aims to describe the speaking ability of adolescents with conductive hearing disorders and to explain the mispronunciation of words and sentences. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study approach. The method used in this research is the method of recording, listening and taking notes. The note-taking technique is an advanced method used when applying the listening method. When doing the recording technique, the researcher uses the note-taking technique. The research subjects were 18 year old teenagers. In this study, the resulting speech product experienced obstacles, namely there were 5 substitutions, 3 additions, 2 distortions, 2 elongations, and 6 omissions. The results showed that adolescents with conductive hearing disorders were able to pronounce words and sentences quite well even though they had a nasal voice. There are articulation disorders, including substitution, namely the replacement of phonemes, omission, which is the omission of phonemes, distortion, namely the occurrence of pronunciation confusion, and addition, namely the addition of phonemes. Similarities with previous research that aspects of omissions or disappearances were also found in this study. While the novelty of this research is the discovery of the aspect of prolongation.
