A STYLISTIC EXPLORATION OF ANDREA HIRATA'S NOVELS

ABSTRACT: This research is a stylistic study of the novels Edensor, Ayah, Sirkus Pohon, Buku Besar Peminum Kopi, and Guru Aini by Andrea Hirata. This research aims to describe the use of stylistics in the elements of exaggeration, structural investigation, and imagery in the novels. The method used is descriptive qualitative with content analysis technique. The results showed that in Edensor, Buku Besar Peminum Kopi, and Guru Aini, metaphors dominate the use of stylistics due to the similarity of comedy, adventure, and inspirational genres. Meanwhile, in Ayah and Sirkus Pohon, the use of personification is more in line with the family and romantic genres. In the element of structural manipulation, hyperbole dominates the novels Ayah, Buku Besar Peminum Kopi, and Guru Aini, which have the family and travel genres in common. In contrast, repetition is used more in Edensor and Sirkus Pohon, which have romantic and inspirational genres. The imagery element in all novels is dominated by visual imagery rather than auditive and kinesthetic. The use of visual imagery strengthens the description of the characters' environment and mood, and helps the reader to imagine the scenario more clearly and deeply.
