DIFFERENCES IN THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND POETRY CONTENT USING THE TECHNIQUES OF LISTENING TO POETRY MUSICALIZATION AND LISTENING TO POETRY READINGS AMONG STUDENTS IN CLASS XI OF KUNINGAN STATE HIGH SCHOOL 3 IN THE 2013/2014 ACADEMIC YEAR

Abstract

The formulation of problems in this study is as follows: 1) How well did the students of class XI IPS 4 at SMA Negeri 3 Kuningan in the 2012/2013 academic year understand the content of the poem “Pada Suatu Hari Nanti” by Sapardi Djoko Damono using the technique of listening to the musicalization of poetry? 2) How well did students in class XI IPS 1 at SMA Negeri 3 Kuningan in the 2012/2013 academic year understand the content of Sapardi Djoko Damono's poem “Pada Suatu Hari Nanti” using the technique of listening to poetry recitation? 3) Is there a difference in the ability of students in class XI IPS 4 and XI IPS 1 at SMA Negeri 3 Kuningan in the 2013/2014 academic year to understand the content of the poem “Pada Suatu Hari Nanti” by Sapardi Djoko Damono between those who use the technique of listening to poetry recitation and those who use the technique of listening to musicalization of poetry? The research method used in this study is quantitative descriptive. Data collection techniques: (literature study, observation, and tests). Population: The population in this study consisted of 133 students in class XI IPS at SMA Negeri 3 Kuningan in the 2013/2014 academic year. Sample: In this study, there were 68 students. Based on the results of data analysis, the following conclusions were obtained: 1) The ability of students in class XI IPS 1 to understand the content of poetry using the technique of listening to the recitation of the poem “Pada Suatu Hari Nanti” by Sapardi Djoko Damono was classified as failing, because the average score was 48.00, which was in the range of 00-40.00. Therefore, the hypothesis is rejected. 2) The ability of students in class XI IPS 4 to understand the elements of poetry by listening to the musicalization of the poem “Pada Suatu Hari Nanti” by Sapardi Djoko Damono is below standard, because the average score is 41.17, which is in the range of 41.00 – 55.00. Therefore, the hypothesis is rejected. 3) The difference in the ability of students in class XI IPS 1 and XI IPS 4 at SMA Negeri 3 Kuningan in the 2013/2014 academic year to understand the content of poetry between the technique of listening to poetry reading and listening to the musicalization of the poem “Pada Suatu Hari Nanti” by Sapardi Djoko Damono. The results are as follows. (1) The results of the difference test using the t-test of the two classes and the two different techniques of understanding the content of poetry. The t-table value (dk 66) with a significance level of 0.05 or 5% is 2.000. Meanwhile, the t-count value is -2.30. It turns out that the calculated t is smaller than the table t, so it can be concluded that the average score of grade XI IPS 1 students in understanding the content of poetry using the technique of listening to poetry recitation and grade XI IPS 4 students in understanding the content of poetry using the technique of listening to the musicalization of the poem “Pada Suatu Hari Nanti” by Sapardi Djoko Damono does not show any difference or is not significant. Therefore, the hypothesis is rejected.
