UTILIZATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT AS A LEARNING MEDIUM TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' LEARNING OUTCOMES IN WRITING FREE VERSE POETRY AMONG STUDENTS IN CLASS VIII C OF SMPN 1 CIBEUREUM

Abstract

Writing is an activity for expressing oneself, using one's imagination, pouring out ideas or thoughts, and feelings. This enables students to think, particularly in the form of writing, especially free verse poetry. Research questions 1) What is the plan for teaching free verse poetry using the environment as a learning medium to improve learning outcomes for students in class VIII C at SMP Negeri 1 Cibeureum? 2) How is the teaching of free verse poetry using the environment as a learning medium to improve learning outcomes for students in class VIII C at SMP Negeri 1 Cibeureum carried out? 3) What are the results of learning about free verse poetry writing by utilizing the environment as a learning medium to improve learning outcomes in class VIII C students at SMP Negeri 1 Cibeureum? The method used in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The data collection techniques used in this study were literature study, observation, and tests. The time setting was from May to June 2013. The research was conducted in class VIII C of SMP Negeri 1 Cibeureum. The results of the observation of the learning implementation plan in cycle I reached a final score of 2.37 with a satisfactory criterion. 1) The lesson plan for cycle II achieved a final score of 3.60, which is considered good. 2) In the learning process for cycle I, the average score was 63.63%, which means that the teacher's performance was sufficient. In the learning process for cycle II, the average score was 81.81%, which means that the teacher had carried out the stages of teaching free verse writing by utilizing the environment as a learning medium. The teacher had carried out the stages of teaching free verse writing well. The student activity learning process in Cycle I was considered good by 9 students (27.27%), while the student activity learning process in Cycle II was considered good by 19 students (57.57%), meaning that the student activity learning process had improved. 3) The results of learning to write free verse by utilizing the environment as a learning medium for students in class VIII C of SMP Negeri 1 Cibeureum in cycle I, out of a total of 33 students, 11 students (33.33%) were considered to have completed the learning process and 22 students (66.66%) did not, with an average score of 65.36, which means that the minimum completion criteria have not been met. because the minimum mastery criteria determined by SMP Negeri 1 Cibeureum for the Indonesian language subject for the KD “Writing free poetry using appropriate word choices” is 72. Meanwhile, in cycle II, out of 33 students, 28 students (81.81%) were considered proficient and 5 students (15.15%) were not proficient, with an average score of 77.87, which means that there was an improvement in cycle II.
